WOMENACTION 2000 A WOMEN'S NGO GLOBAL COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK FOR BEIJING + FIVE INFORMATION SHARING STRATEGY WomenAction 2000 is working to develop a communications network and information-sharing strategy that will allow women in every world region to participate and impact on the 5-year review of the implementation 1995 Beijing Platform for Action. Specific outcomes of this project include: 1. The establishment of a global network of regional and sub-regional focal points and websites that will act as animators for the Beijing+5 Review Process; 2. Women's participation in the review process through online and offline information and experience sharing, and through facilitated discussion of the key issues by means of global and regional websites, online discussion lists, radio and press; 3. A comprehensive analysis of Section J: Beijing Platform for Action: Women and Media. This will include the development of a specific booklet and website dedicated to Women and Media. Progress To Date! Electronic Network Training Workshop: From September 27 to October 2, 1999, a five-day workshop was held at the Asia Pacific Women's Information Network Centre at SookMyung Women's University in Seoul, Korea. Most importantly, many participants came from regions that were not currently represented on the existing steering committee, for example: KARAT Coalition from Eastern Europe, US WomenConnect and FAFIA (Canada) from North America, Les Penelopes and European Women's Lobby in Western Europe, the Pacific Regional YWCA, and CAFRA in the Caribbean. Repackaging of Information: Since the workshop, WomenAction 2000 has progressed rapidly. A major emphasis is being put on the "repackaging" of information, and Information received from the Internet is being made available via radio, newsletters, newspapers, posters, postcards, and any other way that makes it more accessible to those not yet "on-line".
