Some of the issues raised were: the effects of HIV/AIDS on young women, the lack of access to basic health care services, sexual and other forms of violence against young women, devastating impact of globalization and increasing poverty among young women.

We, the Youth Caucus, want to ensure that young woman's perspectives are taken into consideration throughout the whole Beijing+5 process. As young women, we are concerned not only with age, but also with issues such as race, class, national and ethnic origin, indigenous status, mental and physical disability, sexual orientation, language and religion. When we say we are concerned with age, we are not only referring to adequate representation of youth, but also adequate representation throughout the lifecycle, as we too will grow older. We seek to raise young woman's involvement at all levels of decision-making by heightening their awareness of gender issues. It is important to identify new trends, to look at the specific situation and problems of young women and to work together to develop new ideas and solutions on national and international levels.
