Location: The NGO Media Center is located on the twelfth (12th ) floor of the Church Cener, 777 United Nations Plaza (southwest corner of 44th Street and 1st Avenue). Lead Contacts: Kathy Bonk, Emily Tynes, Joke Van Kampen, Virginia Blandford Telephone: (212) 953-5268 E-mail: kathy_bonk@yahoo.com Hours of Operation: 9:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, throughout the CSW/PrepCom. Logistics: The Media Center will share space with the Internet Cafe. All NGOs are welcome. Photocopying and fax services are not available in this area. There are no public telephones on this floor. The NGO Media Center will maintain a list of NGO spokespeople to be made available to journalists. This listing will also include NGOs’ areas of expertise. Outreach is ongoing; the information forms are available in the Media Center and at various NGO locations. NGOs are encouraged to complete the form and return it to the Media Center as soon as possible. Calendar: The NGO Media Center will maintain a wall calendar of NGO press events; a daily press advisory on activities will be distributed to media covering the PrepCom. This does not, however, guarantee press attendance at your events. Each NGO should plan to promote its own event, but a central calendar will be maintained. To make sure your event is included on the central calendar, please contact the CONGO Beijing+5 Liaison office at (212) 687-7352 (fax) or beijing5ngo@aol.com (e-mail). OTHER QUESTIONS: How do I reach the press? New organizations with permanent offices at the UN can be found in UN Headquarters. Will NGOs be able to distribute press releases at the UN? NGOs are free to leave materials for the press in the NGO Media Center. How do I set up a press conference? NGOs can arrange press conferences either in the UN Headquarters, in the Church Center, or in area hotels. To set up a press conference in the UN: NGOs must be sponsored by their country mission in order to hold a press conference within the UN. The mission should contact Maricel Magas-Sniffen in the UN Spokesman’s office: telephone (212) 963-7707, fax (212) 963-7055. To reserve space in the Church Center for a press conference (available on a first-come-first-served basis), contact Tsinu Tesfaye in the CONGO Beijing+5 Liaison Office either by fax (212-687-7352) or e-mail (beijing5ngo@aol.com). My organization has: an interesting story to tell/a fascinating spokesperson. How can I make the press aware of them? NGOs may go directly to the press in the UN Headquarters (see above). In addition, the Media Center will maintain a list of NGO spokespeople including their area(s) of expertise to be made available to the press at various drop points in the conference. NGOs may provide information to include in this list (see information about submissions in "Logistics" above).
