About Us
Consumers International is pleased to have the opportunity to comment on these elements that have been proposed for a draft decision. With the challenge to protect food security for all consumers in the face of an increasingly globalized economy, the emphasis of these elements on this subject is timely and appropriate. Likewise, focus on the processes of production and relevant financing mechanisms to support and expand the use of integrated pest management and other sustainable agriculture methods is also important. However, we feel attention to the critical role and rights of consumers is an important element that seems to have been overlooked. Finally, Mr. Chairman, with regard to the role of biotechnology in improving food security , we are not yet convinced that current technologies yet serve or are being developed to serve that purpose and support the call to governments to explore this aspect further, and to take into account conern about the possible adverse effects of biotechnology.
